What is VEDDER?

VEDDER is a biotechnology accelerator for U.S. companies whose technology serves both commercial markets and national security needs. It connects selected companies with technical resources, business support, capital networks and government acquisition expertise.

What problem is the Army trying to solve?

The Army wants faster discovery of medical countermeasures for chemical and biological threats, and small, low-power sensors that report useful information about chemical, biological and environmental signals without relying on heavy infrastructure.

Priority capability areas: what VEDDER is looking for

  • VTCS-01: target identification and validation, de novo small-molecule design, multi-attribute optimization (ADMET, PK/PD, safety, scalability), in-silico characterization, and cell-based demonstration against a known target
  • VTCS-01 out of scope: diagnostics, radiopharmaceuticals, repurposing approved drugs, biologics-only platforms, late-stage clinical programs
  • VTCS-02: miniaturized chemical, biological and environmental sensing, on-device inference and anomaly detection, low-power networking, ruggedization and manufacturability
  • VTCS-02 out of scope: cloud-dependent architectures, laboratory bench instruments, sensing with no path to field deployment

Eligibility

  • Ownership: organized in the U.S. and majority U.S.-owned and controlled
  • Foreign investment: must be disclosed; foreign ownership or influence may disqualify
  • Personnel: key personnel must be U.S. citizens and assigned personnel must meet security requirements
  • Technology: demonstrable, with a self-rated TRL
  • Business: commercially viable with or without government customers, and willing to team where a challenge calls for it
  • Who can apply: startups, small businesses, university spin-outs and nontraditional defense contractors are welcome; no prior government contracting experience is required

How to apply

  • Pass the short eligibility screen on the D!NG VEDDER application page.
  • Answer the 10 challenge questions and self-rate your TRL.
  • Upload a 1 to 2 page capability statement in any format.
  • Submit one application per challenge by October 30, 2026, 11:59 p.m. Eastern.

What happens after you submit?

  • Mid-November 2026: selected applicants invited to propose
  • December 2026 to January 2027: selections and agreements expected

Is this opportunity a good fit for your company?

It fits a U.S. company with a working AI-driven small-molecule discovery platform or an edge-AI chemical and biological sensor, plus a commercial market of its own. It does not fit early concepts, biologics-only platforms, cloud-only sensing or companies with significant foreign ownership.
