What Is the DMID Omnibus BAA?

The DMID Omnibus BAA is NIAID's contract solicitation for specific infectious disease product needs. The 2027 edition names three research areas, each competed separately.

What Problem Is NIAID Trying to Solve?

NIAID wants products that move faster toward patients: vaccines that do not need a needle, new therapeutics against priority pathogens, and diagnostics that identify viruses from sequencing data in about two hours.

Research Areas: What NIAID Is Looking For

  • Research Area 1: A needle-free vaccine candidate taken into a clinical trial
  • Research Area 2: Therapeutics for the listed viral, bacterial and fungal pathogens
  • Research Area 3: Sequencing-based viral diagnostics, ideally with results in about two hours

Funding and Award Terms

  • Amount: NIAID estimates up to $16M for up to four contracts in FY27
  • Type: Cost-reimbursement completion contracts
  • Length: Up to five years
  • Subcontracting plan: Required from large businesses above $900,000

Eligibility

  • Who can apply: Any responsible offeror; the BAA is not set aside for small business
  • Size standard: NAICS 541715, 1,000 employees
  • Scope rule: A vaccine proposal without a clinical trial is out of scope

How to Apply

  • Send a notice of intent: by November 6, 2026 (requested, not mandatory)
  • Write one proposal per research area: the 75-page technical limit includes biosketches
  • Submit through eCPS: by December 8, 2026, 3:00 PM ET

What Happens After You Submit?

  • Evaluation: NIAID evaluates each proposal under the criteria in the BAA
  • Award: NIAID estimates up to four contracts in FY27

Is This Opportunity a Good Fit for Your Company?

It fits companies with a needle-free vaccine ready for a clinical trial, anti-infective developers with data in hand, and diagnostics teams working on fast, sequencing-based virus identification.
